The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has granted provisional relief to 21 footballers suspended by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over their alleged involvement in the match-fixing scandal arising from the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League fixture between AshantiGold and Inter Allies.
The players had been sanctioned by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee after being found guilty of manipulating the outcome of the Matchday 34 encounter.

Following the bans, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), with the support of the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro), appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Pending the final determination of the appeal, CAS has granted a stay of the sanctions, allowing the affected players to register for the 2022/23 football season.
The ruling also permits the players to sign for their respective clubs and participate in competitive matches while the appeal process is ongoing.
However, Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey is not covered by the provisional order because he was not among the 21 players included in FIFPro’s appeal before CAS.
The substantive appeal remains before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which will determine whether to uphold or overturn the sanctions imposed by the Ghana Football Association.
