Anang made an early save in the 5th minute to deny Japan, keeping the match level temporarily. However, Japan broke the deadlock in the 16th minute after Semenyo lost possession in midfield, allowing Takumi Minamino, the former Liverpool midfielder and hosts’ captain, to score with a composed finish.
Ghana responded with attacking efforts, including a deflected volley from Brandon Thomas-Asante and a wide shot from Derrick Kohn, who also made a crucial block to deny Japan a second goal. Despite this, Japan extended their lead around the hour mark with Ritsu Doan scoring a near-post finish.
The match was further overshadowed by a serious injury to midfielder Abu Francis in the early part of the second half. Japan had multiple opportunities to increase its lead but was unable to convert.
The Black Stars now turn their attention to their next international friendly against South Korea on November 18 as they continue preparations for the World Cup.
