Mr John Jinapor, Ghana‘s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, conducted a working visit to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and its upstream subsidiary, GNPC Explorco, to review progress and discuss strategies to address the decline in the country’s oil production.
The visit focused on strengthening collaboration, improving operational efficiency, and aligning efforts with national energy objectives. GNPC Explorco plays a key role in building local technical capacity in petroleum exploration and production, while promoting greater national ownership of oil and gas resources.

During the engagement, Minister Jinapor commended GNPC and Explorco for their dedication but expressed concern over Ghana’s declining oil output, urging both entities to intensify exploration, innovate, and pursue strategic partnerships to reverse the trend.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting these institutions with the necessary resources and policy guidance to build a strong, integrated national oil company capable of competing internationally.
Mr Kwame Ntow Amoah, CEO of GNPC, assured the Minister of the Corporation’s resolve, highlighting ongoing investments in exploration, capacity development, and strategic partnerships to sustain and grow Ghana’s oil reserves.
Mr Sam Arthur, Managing Director of GNPC Explorco, briefed the Minister on ongoing exploration projects and initiatives to strengthen technical capacity, reaffirming the subsidiary’s commitment to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s upstream petroleum growth.
