TUC urges John Mahama to provide clarity on ‘resetting agenda’ in State of the Nation Address

Chairman of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Bernard Owusu, has outlined key expectations ahead of President John Dramani Mahama‘s State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Channel One Newsroom, Owusu called for a clear explanation of the government’s “resetting agenda,” urging the president to provide specific details and actionable measures.

“We need clarity on what the government means by resetting Ghana and the concrete steps it plans to take,” he stated.

He also emphasized the need for policies to address the rising cost of living and high unemployment rates, stressing that Ghanaians expect a well-defined plan to tackle these challenges.

Additionally, the TUC expects the president to outline strategies for fostering national unity and moving away from extreme partisanship. On wages, Owusu called for a firm commitment to addressing pay disparities and replacing the minimum wage with a living wage to improve workers’ income.

“The government must adopt a living wage to replace the current minimum wage and address pay inequalities. We also expect efforts to increase pension coverage, improve retirees’ income, and implement pension unification, particularly for the informal economy,” he added.
