Private legal practitioner Bobby Banson has expressed deep concern over allegations that members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee have accepted bribes in exchange for approving ministerial nominees.
The controversy stems from claims made by social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who alleged that some committee members demanded money from nominees. However, after being summoned by the committee’s chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, Barker-Vormawor clarified that his comments were meant to highlight broader concerns about corruption and transparency rather than directly accuse the committee. He later apologized for any misinterpretation of his remarks.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile on Saturday, February 1, Bobby Banson calls for probe into bribery allegations at Parliament’s Appointments CommitteeBanson described the allegations as deeply troubling, stating that if proven true, they would be a major setback for Ghana’s democracy.
“If indeed parliamentarians are taking money to approve or disapprove ministerial nominees, then it’s the height of misfortune,” he said.
Mr Banson emphasized that such actions undermine the integrity of Parliament, erode public trust, and hinder the nation’s democratic process. He called for a thorough investigation into the allegations and urged Parliament to take decisive steps to ensure transparency in the vetting process.
He further stressed the need for accountability, urging elected officials to prioritize national interest over personal gain.
