Democracy Hub protesters

The Attorney General (AG) has officially discontinued the case against Democracy Hub protesters, including Oliver Barker-Vormawor and Ama Governor, by filing a nolle prosequi. This decision effectively brings an end to the legal battle, allowing all accused individuals to walk free.

The protesters were arrested and charged following a demonstration but were later granted bail. However, Barker-Vormawor initially faced extended detention due to pending treason felony charges from a separate case.

The legal proceedings ignited public debate, with activists and civil society groups demanding the release of the protesters and questioning the government’s stance on the right to peaceful protest.

The AG’s decision to drop the charges is seen as a significant moment in Ghana’s democratic landscape, particularly in relation to protest rights and government accountability.
