Parliament debates 24-hour economy and export development programme

Members of Parliament have debated the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme following the presentation of a joint committee report.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee on Economy and Development, Hon. Eric Afful, said the programme adopts an integrated value chain approach that links agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, financing, and skills development to drive economic transformation.

He said the initiative aims to strengthen domestic production, expand value addition, reduce dependence on raw-material exports, boost foreign-exchange earnings, reduce trade imbalances, and create sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

According to Hon. Afful, the programme also seeks to strengthen agricultural value chains, expand domestic manufacturing, and improve access to affordable financing for productive sectors.
