President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with traditional authorities to support national development.
The President made the remarks during a courtesy call by the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, where he stressed that chiefs remain central to nation-building through their influence, legitimacy, cultural authority and community trust.

According to President Mahama, the government’s Reset Agenda includes plans to institutionalise cooperation between traditional leaders and District Assemblies through regular coordination meetings and joint monitoring of infrastructure projects to improve transparency, accountability and project delivery.
He highlighted ongoing and planned interventions across the Northern Region in areas such as agriculture, roads, education, healthcare, water systems and rural electrification, describing the region as important to Ghana’s transformation and food security agenda.
The President also called for stronger collaboration between chiefs, youth groups and security agencies to address drug abuse in communities.
He further announced plans to prioritise the completion of key health projects, including the psychiatric hospital in Mion and a new cardio centre in Tamale.
President Mahama assured the chiefs that the government would support efforts to strengthen the institutional capacity of traditional authorities, including the completion of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs Secretariat.
The Northern Regional House of Chiefs pledged its support for government development programmes and committed to participating actively in development initiatives from planning to completion.
