Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Solomon Asamoah, has refuted claims made by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, that he is evading authorities and hiding in Senegal.

In a statement dated Monday, 24th March 2025, Asamoah described the allegations as “false and incorrect,” clarifying that his recent travel was for scheduled board meetings and not an attempt to evade justice.

“I categorically deny the false and incorrect allegations that I have gone into hiding in Senegal. This claim is entirely inaccurate and untrue,” he stated.

According to Asamoah, he left Ghana on Friday, 21st March 2025, for official engagements that had been planned well in advance. He further noted that he had been present in Ghana for extended periods in February and March and was never contacted by any government official regarding an invitation to assist with any investigation.

However, he acknowledged that a day after his departure, on Saturday, 22nd March, he was contacted via WhatsApp by an official of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), requesting an online meeting. He confirmed that he agreed to hold the meeting on Wednesday, 26th March at 4 p.m.

Asamoah emphasized his professional integrity and track record, highlighting his contributions to GIIF. He noted that under his leadership, GIIF remained profitable every year, generating cumulative net profits of over GHS 2.5 billion—more than double the institution’s original capital of GHS 1.2 billion. He added that these profits were reinvested, growing the fund to GHS 5.2 billion by the end of 2023, making GIIF one of the top-performing infrastructure funds in Africa.

“I have not committed any wrongdoing and I absolutely have no reason to run away from justice,” he asserted, assuring that he would return to Ghana shortly to fully cooperate with the Attorney-General’s investigations.
