Businessman Richard Jakpa has been appointed as the new Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, a role that will see him oversee critical national security operations. Sources within the National Security Secretariat reveal that Mr Jakpa’s appointment took effect on January 31, 2025, putting to rest any speculations surrounding his involvement in a recent raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Eyewitnesses had previously claimed that a group of individuals, including five in military uniforms, one in a police uniform, and others in plain clothes, raided Ofori-Atta’s home last week. However, sources confirm that Mr Jakpa had a warrant for the operation, and the security guard at Ofori-Atta’s residence provided access to the team. This dispels any accusations of illegal entry.

As Director of Special Operations, Jakpa will be responsible for managing covert and overt operations, developing early warning systems to address emerging threats such as terrorism and organized crime, and ensuring the operational readiness of special forces and rapid response units. He will also lead crisis response teams during national security emergencies and carry out additional duties as directed by the National Security Coordinator or Chief Director.
