The NDC, in the run-up to the 2024 elections, downplayed the cocoa pricing of the Akufo-Addo administration.

The current Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato-Forson, was emphatic that cocoa farmers deserved to be paid GHS6000 instead of the GHS3100 they were receiving per bag of cocoa beans.

These farmers listened to them, voted massively for the NDC, hoping that the promised GHS6000 per bag of cocoa would be fulfilled.

The Minister of Agriculture, Eric Opoku, on his social media accounts, has announced government’s decision to exceed the initial 60% proposal and offer cocoa farmers 70% of the world market price.

According to him, the intended increase is to motivate farmers, boost production, and further cement Ghana’s standing as the world’s second largest producer of cocoa.

No sooner had the Minister of Agriculture had made this announcement than Randy Abbey, the CEO of COCOBOD, took to his X (Twitter) account, debunking the claim made by the Minister.

Describing it as misinformation, the former boss of Metro TV Ghana, has urged the general public to disregard the Minister’s announcement since no such decision has been made by COCOBOD.

This, credible sources within the two camps, have revealed that, has brought tensions between the two. As to why the two couldn’t discuss and agree on what to do is a mystery that will be revealed sooner than later.
