ORAL report’s revelations hardly surprising

ORAL revelations hardly surprising

The ORAL Report has uncovered a staggering potential recovery in the billions. But this revelation is hardly surprising. Anyone paying attention to Auditor-General reports, media exposés, and the endless scandals debated at chop bars could have predicted it.

What matters now is whether this report becomes a roadmap to national financial restoration or just another document that gathers dust.

If history has taught us anything, it is that exposing looting is far easier than recovering stolen funds and holding culprits accountable.

What Must Happen Next?

  1. Immediate Asset Recovery – Authorities must act swiftly to reclaim looted assets and freeze hidden assets before they disappear.
  2. Institutional Cooperation – Key agencies like EOCO, A-G, Auditor-General, and OSP must work in lockstep to close loopholes and enforce the law efficiently.
  3. Competent Investigations & Strong Case Files – Investigators must build airtight cases that can withstand legal scrutiny, ensuring convictions stick.
  4. Judicial Reforms & Timelines – The Rules of Court Committee must reform the interlocutory appellate processes. Timelines must be established for looting (and other) cases.
  5. Fast-Tracked Prosecutions – No more delays and adjournments—justice must be swift, firm, and uncompromising.
  6. Swift and Independent Trials – we need:
  7. Anti-corruption courts led by judges trained in financial crimes.
  8. Cases handled by the DPP and well-paid career prosecutors.
  9. Public Accountability – we deserve regular updates on how much has been recovered, where it is being reinvested, and who has been held accountable.
  10. Independent Oversight – A non-partisan, professional team must be set up to ensure there is no selective justice in implementing the ORAL report.
  11. Do not acquiesce to pressures from Chiefs and religious leaders who work quietly and behind the scenes, pleading for mercy on behalf of looters.
  12. Looters will fight back. They are well-resourced. They will mobilize loyalists, deploy media allies, and whip up partisan outrage to shield themselves. Witch-hunting will become en vogue. But let’s be clear that only witches can be witch-hunted. If you fear a witch hunt, maybe it’s because you have a broomstick to hide.

No More Excuses

ORAL has exposed the rot. Now, anti-corruption agencies must prove they are up to the task—or be devoured by OMAMPAM.

Billions are at stake, and the people will not forgive another wasted opportunity. In the meantime, close all avenues for new looting by activating OPAL.

Ayekoo ORAL.
