The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, has emerged victorious in the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary primary for the Okaikwei North constituency, securing 341 votes.
The highly anticipated contest unfolded in the presence of approximately 850 delegates who cast their votes to choose the next parliamentary candidate for the NPP.
Six aspirants competed for the coveted position within the constituency, intensifying the electoral dynamics.
The candidates included Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, who garnered 27 votes, Prince Owusu Mensah with six votes, Akoto Alberta Afia Asomaniwa securing 228 votes, and Nyarko Stephen Adipa amassing 108 votes.
Notably, Fuseini Issah, the former MP for the area, also entered the race and polled 114 votes.
The parliamentary primary witnessed a keenly contested battle, reflecting the democratic principles within the NPP.
However, the primary in Okaikwei North was not without its challenges.
Earlier in the day, confusion erupted as some delegates, believed to be from outside the constituency, attempted to participate in the voting process.
The presence of these non-local delegates raised concerns among some attendees, leading to an altercation.
Quick to address the situation, delegates who observed the irregularity raised the alarm, prompting an altercation with the individuals in question.
Fortunately, law enforcement swiftly intervened to restore order and calm tensions.
