“Nana Agradaa” Jailed 15 Years for Money Doubling Scam

Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Circuit Court in Accra for charlatanic advertisement and defrauding members of the public by false pretenses.

The former traditional priestess, who later rebranded herself as an evangelist, was found guilty of orchestrating a fraudulent money-doubling scheme during a televised broadcast in 2022. In the broadcast, she falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money, luring scores of unsuspecting victims to part with large sums of cash with the promise of miraculous returns that never materialised.

Her conviction and sentencing mark a significant development in Ghana’s efforts to crack down on spiritual scams and deceptive religious practices. Before the sentencing, the court ordered a mandatory pregnancy test, which confirmed that she was not pregnant, thereby clearing the way for the sentence to be handed down without delay.
