The University of Cambridge has expressed deep concern over the welfare of its PhD student, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, following his arrest in Ghana and subsequent charge of treason felony.
In a statement, the university said students and staff remained concerned about Barker-Vormawor, who was arrested at Kotoka International Airport on February 11.

Cambridge noted that his legal team had raised concerns over alleged breaches of due process during his detention, claims it said had also been corroborated by independent sources.
The university disclosed that its Vice-Chancellor had written to the Ghanaian authorities, expressing concern for Barker-Vormawor’s welfare and urging that the rule of law be upheld.
The letter also called for him to be granted access to a fair trial in accordance with legal procedures.
While welcoming the decision by a Ghanaian court to grant Barker-Vormawor bail on March 16, the university expressed concern that, according to the latest information available to it, he had not yet been released despite meeting the conditions for bail.
The University of Cambridge said it would continue to monitor developments in the case closely.
