The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana, has announced plans to reopen Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Mexico as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation.
The announcement was made during a consultative visit to Mexico by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson, who formally communicated the government’s intention to Mexican authorities.

The reopening is expected to deepen cooperation between Ghana and Mexico in key sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture, education, tourism, innovation, and capacity building. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were first established in 1961.
Mexican authorities welcomed the proposal and expressed readiness to support the process. Discussions with Ambassador Maria Teresa Mercado also focused on expanding economic and technical cooperation, including trade facilitation, education, and cultural exchange.
The Ministry noted that reopening the mission will improve consular services for Ghanaian nationals in Mexico and strengthen people-to-people relations.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister also engaged members of the diplomatic corps and business community, promoting Ghana as an attractive destination for investment.
