Ghana intensifies engagement on global reparations agenda

On Friday, 10th April, 2026, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, received the Presidential Special Envoy on Reparations, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, and his delegation for a strategic engagement on advancing the global reparatory justice agenda.

The meeting reviewed ongoing efforts following the adoption of the landmark United Nations General Assembly Resolution on Reparations and focused on sustaining international momentum, strengthening coordination, and consolidating advocacy for justice for Africans and people of African descent.

He stressed the need to maintain a broad-based coalition across regions and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to pursuing justice, restitution, and equity through inclusive and transparent processes.

Ambassador Spio-Garbrah briefed the Minister on the work of the Office of the Presidential Special Envoy on Reparations, highlighting key priorities including coalition-building, institutional strengthening, and the development of a coordinated framework to guide implementation.
