Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has successfully lobbied for chairs and tables for Kindergarten (KG) pupils of the Avangor EP Basic School at Adeheta in the Akatsi South Municipality, following reports that the children had been studying on the bare floor.

Until the intervention, the pupils had no classroom furniture, and their teachers also lacked the necessary desks and tables to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

The support came through ‘Pencils of Promise,’ a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), after Mr Samuel Abelorbu, the Assembly Member for the area, appealed to the Regional Minister for assistance to address what he described as the “demoralising” conditions under which pupils and teachers operated.

At a brief handing-over ceremony led by Mr Daniel Dagba, the Akatsi South Municipal Chief Executive, a total of 14 wooden chairs and 10 tables were officially presented to the school.

Mr Abelorbu expressed appreciation to Mr Gunu for responding swiftly to their call and commended all partners who contributed to improving education in the area.

Mr Paul Atsu Ocloo, the newly posted headteacher, also appealed for additional support, particularly for teachers’ furniture, to enhance effective service delivery.

Mr Dagba assured the school authorities of the government’s continuous support under the Resetting Ghana Agenda initiative.

In a related development, Mr Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, announced new educational infrastructure interventions set to commence in the constituency this year.

Meanwhile, Mr Wise Horgli, Chief Executive Officer of Westport Petroleum, said the company had constructed a three-unit Junior High School block with an office and toilet facilities for the Avangor EP Basic School and pledged continued support toward educational development in the community.
