Goosie Tanoh launches 77th Annual New Year School and Conference, urging national collaboration for Ghana’s sustainable development

Mr Goosie Obuadum Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, has launched the 77th Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYC) with a call for broad national collaboration to drive Ghana’s long-term development agenda.

Speaking at the event ahead of the 2026 conference scheduled for January 6 to 8 at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, Mr Tanoh said sustainable progress depended on shared responsibility and coordinated efforts across sectors.

The three-day programme is being organised by the School of Continuing and Distance Education and the College of Education of the University on the theme, “Building the Ghana We Want Together for Sustainable Development.”

He noted that the theme reflected the current national sentiment, explaining that Ghanaians wanted predictable work opportunities, stable markets, and an economy designed for growth.

According to him, the theme challenges the country to realistically assess what must shift to remain competitive globally.

Mr Tanoh outlined the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme (24H+) as government’s structured response to building productivity, trade capacity, and economic reliability.

He said the programme focuses on three pillars: production through Growth24, Make24, Build24 and Show24; strengthening supply chains and market systems; and placing people at the centre of national transformation.

He stressed that “The Ghana We Want” required more than government commitment, adding that meaningful change hinged on how all stakeholders—especially young people and communities- contributed to the process.

Prof. Olivia Kwapong, Dean of the School of Continuing and Distance Education, said the conference would examine four key areas: developing human capital for inclusive growth, strengthening governance and addressing corruption, and promoting industrialisation, revitalisation, and economic transformation.

She highlighted the event’s longstanding role since April 1984 as a platform for engaging national and international issues.

Dr Andrew Jack Dotsey, Executive Director of the ANYC, emphasised that global sustainability is driven by partnership.

He noted that the Conference continued to collaborate with financial institutions, civil society groups, industry, government bodies, and international academic institutions.
