Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah appointed CEO of Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and Digital Chamber of Ghana

Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT) and the Digital Chamber of Ghana (DCG), succeeding Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, who concluded his tenure in June 2025 after nearly eight years of service. Dr. Ashigbey’s leadership was credited with establishing strong advocacy platforms for the sector and laying the foundation for the Digital Chamber.

According to a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Ms. Owusu-Ankomah brings almost two decades of leadership experience across telecommunications, digital, and fast-moving consumer goods sectors. She has held senior positions at MTN Ghana, Tigo (Millicom Ghana), AirtelTigo, and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC.

Her career includes pivotal contributions to Ghana’s telecom and digital landscape, including securing regulatory approvals for Ghana’s first major telecom merger, advancing 3G licensing and submarine cable landing rights at MTN Ghana, and guiding AirtelTigo through one of the country’s most complex mergers. She also played a role in acquiring an Electronic Money Issuer (EMI) licence from the Bank of Ghana for AirtelTigo Money and has served on several industry platforms, including as a Council Member of the Chamber, Trustee of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), and Advisory Board Member of the Ghana Innovation Hub.

“In her most recent role as Director of Corporate Relations at Guinness Ghana, Ms. Owusu-Ankomah led public policy advocacy, sustainability initiatives, and reputation management, achieving significant results in business sustainability and local sourcing,” the statement noted.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Stephen Blewett, Chair of the Governing Council of the Chamber and CEO of MTN Ghana, said, “Sylvia’s appointment represents an exciting new chapter for the Chamber. Her deep roots in the telecom sector, coupled with her proven ability to unite stakeholders and deliver tangible results, position her perfectly to lead the industry Chamber into its next phase of digital growth and innovation.”

Ms. Owusu-Ankomah expressed her vision to strengthen collaboration across government, industry, and consumers. “I am humbled to lead the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the Digital Chamber of Ghana at such a defining time for Ghana’s digital journey. Together with our members, we will advocate policies that enable inclusive and sustainable industry growth, safeguard critical infrastructure, empower innovation, and ensure Ghana remains at the forefront of Africa‘s digital renaissance,” she said.

She holds an MBA in Management from Coventry University, a Public Policy Analysis certification from the London School of Economics, and a certification in Leading Sustainable Corporations from the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.

The statement added that her appointment underscores the Chambers’ commitment to visionary leadership in driving Ghana’s telecommunications and digital finance agenda forward.
