Woman feared dead after being swept away in Nima drain during heavy rains

Accra – A tragic incident has claimed the life of a woman who was reportedly swept away by strong floodwaters in a drain at Nima following heavy rainfall in parts of the capital.

According to eyewitness accounts, the victim was caught in fast-moving water during a downpour that caused significant flooding in the area.

The overflowing drain, unable to contain the volume of rainwater, quickly turned into a dangerous channel, dragging the woman along before bystanders could intervene.

Residents say efforts were made to rescue her, but the intensity of the water made it impossible to reach her in time. Her body was later recovered downstream after the rains subsided.

The incident has once again highlighted the persistent flooding challenges in parts of Accra, particularly in low-lying communities such as Nima, where choked drains and poor sanitation often worsen the impact of heavy rains.
