Tragedy at Aburaso: Truck loaded with lumber kills pupil, injures two others

The Aburaso community, located along the Bechem-Kumasi highway, was thrown into mourning on Tuesday afternoon, October 28, after a heavy-duty truck loaded with lumber lost control and killed a school pupil.

According to reports gathered by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the deceased, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was walking home from school with two other children when the tragic incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. The two surviving children are said to be in critical condition.

An eyewitness, Mr Evans Owusu, told the GNA that the truck, with registration number GE 9901-11, lost control, causing the lumber it was carrying to fall off and trap the children.

He explained that some young men in the area rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the victims, but sadly, one was already lifeless. The two others were quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, Mr Owusu said the truck had blocked the Aburaso section of the highway, leading to severe traffic congestion, with vehicles unable to move from either direction.

He added that both the driver and his mate escaped unhurt and fled the scene after the incident.
