The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced an extension of the demolition date for unauthorised structures located in and around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
In a statement issued on 5th February, 2026, the Assembly said the decision followed deliberations at a meeting of the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) held on 4th February, 2026.

The meeting reviewed the planned demolition exercise and considered appeals from traditional authorities, including Nana Amakomhene and Nana Dadiesoabahene, who called for additional time to allow affected persons to voluntarily relocate their structures and livelihoods.
Based on these considerations, REGSEC approved an extension of the demolition timeline. The exercise, which was initially scheduled to take place earlier, has now been rescheduled for Monday, 6th April, 2026.
The KMA emphasized that the extension is a humanitarian measure aimed at giving owners and operators of unauthorised temporary structures, containers, and garages sufficient time to remove their properties voluntarily.
The Assembly has therefore urged all affected persons to make full use of the extended period to relocate within the stipulated timeframe.
According to the KMA, the planned demolition forms part of broader efforts to enhance public safety, improve sanitation, ensure free movement, and restore order and aesthetic value to critical public spaces within the Kumasi Metropolis.
The Assembly further cautioned that no additional extensions will be granted beyond the new deadline. Any unauthorised structure remaining after 6th April, 2026, will be removed by the Assembly in accordance with existing laws and regulations, without recourse to the owners.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly appealed to all affected individuals to cooperate to ensure a smooth and peaceful exercise.
