Enough of the killings – Bawku youth group demands immediate ceasefire

A youth group in Bawku, known as the Concerned Youth of Bawku, has called for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in the area, urging all factions to put an end to the violence.

The group, at a press conference in Bawku on Friday, February 15, 2025, expressed deep concern over the escalating violence, particularly the killing of women and children. They also called on national peace institutions and religious leaders to intervene and push for lasting peace.

The protracted conflict, which initially reignited in November 2021, had subsided until October 2024 when tensions flared following the return of a parallel chief to the area. The situation worsened in February 2025, with increased casualties, including passengers along the Bolgatanga–Tamale highway.

Speaking at the press conference, the group’s spokesperson, Abdul Rahim Aguuri, made a passionate appeal for an end to the bloodshed.

“Enough of the killing of women, children, and other innocent lives in Bawku. We call on the voices of conscience—the National Peace Council, the National House of Chiefs, the Christian Council, the National Chief Imam, and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference—to rise and speak the truth for lasting peace to return to Bawku,” he said.

The youth group urged key stakeholders, including the National Peace Council, religious organizations, and traditional authorities, to actively mediate in the conflict and work towards a lasting resolution.
