The La State Council has directed that the planned one-week commemoration of Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, must not take place during the ongoing Homowo festival due to the strict noisemaking ban in force.
In a statement signed by Jeffrey Tetteh, Assistant Secretary of the La Homowo Planning Council, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the Council stressed that the ban, which prohibits funerals and all funeral-related activities, runs from Monday, August 11 to Friday, September 5, 2025. It said any event falling within this period must be postponed, rescheduled, or cancelled.

“Let it be made clear that there shall be no compromises whatsoever in the enforcement of this directive,” the statement noted, adding that the Council’s duty was to protect, uphold, and preserve the rich cultural heritage and sacred traditions handed down by the forebears. It cautioned that anyone who disregards the directive will face the full weight of customary and lawful sanctions.
The Council expressed sympathy with Daddy Lumba’s family and assured them of its support once the Homowo restrictions are lifted. The one-week memorial was initially scheduled for August 30, 2025, in Accra, while the funeral itself is expected to be held in Kumasi on a date yet to be confirmed
