ICU Urges COCOBOD Local Union Executives to Promote Industrial Harmony

The leadership of the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU), Ghana, has called on the newly elected executives of the COCOBOD Local Union to work closely with management to maintain industrial peace and harmony within the organisation.

Speaking in Accra during the swearing-in of the National Consultative Council of the COCOBOD Local Union, Mr Morgan Ayawine, General Secretary of ICU, Ghana, encouraged the new executives to uphold the values of effective leadership, including commitment, humility, fairness, transparency, honesty, and accountability.

“While you accept the challenge to lead the workers of COCOBOD at these critical and challenging times of the cocoa industry, you must be guided by the status and importance of COCOBOD as a key player in Ghana’s economy,” Mr Ayawine stated.

He reminded the executives to take lessons from the rich history of cooperation between management and unions in the cocoa sector, which had contributed immensely to sustaining Ghana’s reputation as a top cocoa producer.

“We believe that, with the government and COCOBOD implementing the right and systematic policies, we can quickly turn things around by improving quality, increasing tonnage, and reclaiming our enviable position as the world’s leading producer of premium cocoa,” he added.

Mr Ayawine reiterated the ICU’s commitment to working in partnership with COCOBOD’s management at both divisional and subsidiary levels to address key issues such as productivity, staff welfare, and operational efficiency.

He assured the new executives of the National Union’s full support and encouraged them to consult the national leadership when necessary to ensure smooth coordination and alignment with broader union objectives.

The newly sworn-in executives of the National Consultative Council (NCC) of COCOBOD Local Union are:

  • Mr Eric Tuckson – Chairman
  • Mr Frank Abuuro – Vice Chairman
  • Mr Daniel Samari – Secretary
  • Mr Dennis Sarpong – Assistant Secretary
  • Mr Richard Nana A. Kumah – First Trustee
  • Mr Terry Nii Joy Nelson – Second Trustee
