Psychiatrist Dr. Ruth Owusu Antwi has raised concerns over a disturbing trend in Ghana’s growing drug crisis, revealing that some drug users are mixing narcotic substances into instant noodles and other foods for consumption.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Hotline documentary, Deadly Doses II: Ghana’s Growing Drug Crisis, Dr. Owusu Antwi said patients undergoing treatment had admitted to preparing foods such as noodles, stews, cakes, and doughnuts with drugs.

She clarified that her comments were not directed at any instant noodle brand but at the misuse of food by drug users.
Dr. Owusu Antwi explained that the information came directly from patients who voluntarily disclosed their methods of consuming narcotic substances during treatment.
She warned that the practice poses a serious public health concern and called for increased public awareness and stronger efforts to tackle substance abuse in the country.
