The Tema Regional Police Command has disclosed that its officers rejected an alleged GH¢150,000 bribe offered by a suspect who attempted to secure the release of a truck carrying 5,039 compressed parcels of suspected narcotic substances intercepted during an anti-drug operation at Afienya.
The alleged bribery attempt was announced by the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, during a press briefing on July 23, 2026, to provide an update on recent anti-crime operations in the region.

According to DCOP Asiedu, police intercepted a tipper truck transporting the suspected narcotic substances following an intelligence-led operation at Afienya.
The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects, who have since been remanded into custody to assist with investigations.
He disclosed that one of the suspects later attempted to influence the investigation by allegedly offering GH¢150,000 to police officers in exchange for the release of the truck and its cargo.
“Our officers rejected an alleged GH¢150,000 bribe offered by a suspect who sought the release of the truck carrying the suspected narcotic substances,” DCOP Asiedu said.
He commended the officers for refusing the alleged inducement, describing their actions as a demonstration of professionalism, integrity and the Ghana Police Service‘s commitment to combating organised crime.
“The Tema Regional Police Command remains resolute, vigilant and fully committed to combating crime. We have strengthened intelligence gathering, patrols and collaboration with other security agencies. There will be no haven for criminals within this region,” he stated.
The 5,039 compressed parcels of suspected narcotic substances remain in police custody while investigations continue.
Police said efforts were underway to identify and arrest other individuals believed to be connected to the suspected drug trafficking network.
The announcement formed part of the Tema Regional Police Command’s broader update on operations targeting narcotics trafficking, armed robbery and other forms of organised crime within the region.
