Government Begins Demolition of Illegal Structures to Reduce Flooding

The Post-Flood Mitigation Task Force has begun demolishing unauthorised structures along the Tesa Dam and Legon Boundary Road to reduce flooding in the Greater Accra Region.

The exercise, which started on July 24, follows assessments after the June 29 floods. Works, Housing and Water Resources Minister Gilbert Adjei said the move targets structures built on waterways and wetlands, as well as poor waste disposal practices that contribute to flooding.

Residents affected by the exercise were given three weeks’ notice to vacate, according to the Commanding Officer of the 48 Engineer Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Osei Amponsah.
