Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye, has denied claims that he received military protection during his tenure as Speaker of the Seventh Parliament.

In a statement issued on Monday, Prof. Oquaye described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.
He stated that he was never offered military protection and never requested it, adding that he was provided with only three police officers for his security throughout his time in office.
Prof. Oquaye said the information could be verified through the Office of the Clerk to Parliament.
His response follows public debate over the withdrawal of military personnel attached to the office of the current Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
A leaked Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) document directed the withdrawal of four soldiers assigned to the Speaker’s office, stating that their deployment had not followed the proper procedures.
The directive, signed by GAF Chief of Staff Major General N. P. Andoh, ordered the withdrawal of the officers with effect from January 14 while efforts were made to regularise their attachment.
The Minority in Parliament has opposed the decision, describing it as politically motivated and intended to undermine Speaker Bagbin.
Prof. Oquaye has appealed to the public and the media to leave his name out of discussions surrounding the controversy.
