Mr Matthew K. Ayeh, Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has led a security team to raid an illegal mining site at Bobow Woketa, near Appiatse, in the Western Region. Acting on a tip-off received through the Anti-Galamsey Rapid Response Line, Mr Ayeh, alongside the Municipal Police Commander, swiftly moved to close the site.
Upon the team’s arrival, the illegal miners fled, leaving behind a washing plant, an excavator, and a makeshift wooden shelter, which was subsequently destroyed by authorities. Mr Ayeh noted that some of the operators were Chinese nationals assisted by Ghanaians. “They took to their heels when they saw us, but they have left behind an excavator and we are making arrangements to move it out of this site,” he said.

The MCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s zero-tolerance policy toward illegal mining and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any illicit activities. “We will not relent on our efforts to safeguard our lands and water bodies. Anyone engaging in galamsey in this municipality should take this as a warning,” he stated.
