Mahama inspects tidal wave impact in Fuveme

President John Dramani Mahama has visited Fuveme in the Volta Region to assess the impact of recent tidal waves and engage residents on response measures.

He said the area falls under the World Bank-supported West Africa Coastal Areas Management Program (WACA), a $150 million initiative targeting coastal erosion and tidal wave impacts.

According to him, the project is currently at the design stage and will include the construction of sea defence systems, groynes, and ecosystem restoration, such as coconut tree and mangrove planting.

He added that the government is considering interim measures, including dredging of the estuary, to reduce pressure and limit further damage.
