The President of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, has lauded Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) for its huge investment in modern facilities that are transforming waste management across Africa.
Speaking at the opening of Kenya’s 2025 Devolution Conference in Homa Bay County on Wednesday, August 13, President Ruto praised Zoomlion’s efforts after touring the Jospong Group’s exhibition stand. He noted that the company’s deployment of advanced technology and infrastructure was helping many African countries tackle waste management challenges.

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, briefed President Ruto on the operations of Zoomlion and its subsidiaries, including the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP), Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP), Medical Waste Services Limited (MWSL), Waste Landfills, Landfill Technologies Services, and the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant. He highlighted that these facilities were designed to provide technology-driven solutions to Africa’s waste problems.
The four-day DevCon2025, held from August 12 to 15 under the theme “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice,” brought together more than 11,000 delegates, including all 47 Kenyan county governors, members of the Senate, county assemblies, civil society, private sector leaders, and development partners.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Siaw Agyepong unveiled an ambitious plan to help Kenya transform its waste management sector through a county-clustering strategy. With Kenya’s 57 million population generating an estimated 28,000 tonnes of waste daily, he proposed regional integrated waste facilities to serve clusters of counties.
According to him, this model could create over 52,000 jobs annually—30,000 from waste collection, transportation, and sweeping; 21,000 from plant operations; and 1,800 from green initiatives, data monitoring, and carbon market validation.
Emphasising that “there is no waste, only misplaced resources,” Dr. Agyepong called for stronger Ghana-Kenya collaboration to build sustainable waste systems. He pledged that by 2027, Jospong would showcase installed waste management plants across participating African countries.
His address concluded with a short video on Zoomlion’s work, which was met with resounding applause. This marks the first time a West African conglomerate has participated in Kenya’s Devolution Conference.
