Tarkwa electrician jailed one year for tavern theft

The Tarkwa District Court One has sentenced Stephen Ntiful, a 25-year-old electrician popularly known as Kinata, to one year imprisonment with hard labour for stealing assorted items valued at GH¢8,160 from a tavern.

Ntiful was charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful entry, and theft. He pleaded guilty to all charges.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Patrick Essien told the court presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah (Esq.) that the complainant, Michael Bassuah, a businessman, operated a tavern at Tarkwa Banso in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

On May 11, 2025, Bassuah discovered that a Lenovo laptop, a gambling machine, packets of Vody alcoholic drink, Rothman and Oris cigarettes, and a box of lighters had been stolen. He suspected Ntiful and his accomplice, Victor Boateng, alias WIhy me (currently at large). With the help of neighbours, Ntiful was arrested and handed over to the police.

Police investigations revealed that Ntiful and Boateng were at the tavern the previous night, watching the Ghana Music Awards. After the complainant closed the tavern around 3:00 a.m., the two broke in, stole the items, and hid them in an uncompleted building, where they consumed some of the stolen drinks and cigarettes.

Ntiful admitted his involvement, claiming he fell asleep after drinking and woke up to find Boateng had disappeared with the remaining items.
