The Government of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in managing funds raised to support the national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, announcing Thursdays as designated days for accepting pledges and providing updates to the public.
Speaking at a ceremony at the Ministry of Finance in Accra, Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, said all contributions are being paid directly into the official 2026 World Cup Fundraising Account at the Bank of Ghana to ensure accountability and proper allocation.

He said the centralised arrangement is intended to guarantee that every cedi mobilised is transparently managed and used solely for the preparation of the Black Stars.
The event attracted support from the corporate sector, with KGL Group contributing GHC5 million, representing half of its GHC10 million pledge. Serene Insurance donated GHC2 million and provided a GHC20 million insurance package for the team.
Icon Energy and Jewel Energy each donated GHC1 million. Erata Motors contributed GHC200,000, while PayAngel donated GHC100,000. A private businessman, Alex Okyere, also contributed GHC240,000.
Hon. Ampem commended the donors for their support, stating that such contributions are critical to Ghana’s World Cup ambitions.
“We are grateful to all of you for your love for the Black Stars. Even though the first two friendly matches did not go well, we remain optimistic that the team will make us proud at the World Cup,” he said.
He reiterated that all funds lodged at the central bank will be used exclusively for the team’s preparation.
The fundraising initiative, launched last month by John Dramani Mahama, aims to raise $30 million to prepare the Black Stars for the tournament.
The Ministry of Finance has also introduced weekly engagement sessions to sustain the exercise. “Every Thursday, we will meet here to receive contributions, allowing those who are yet to fulfil their pledges to do so,” Hon. Ampem added.
