Accra – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated processes to expel a former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, following comments he made describing the party as a “fake party” and alleging that the 2023 presidential primary was rigged.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and signed by the Party’s General Secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken due notice of comments made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026.

According to the statement, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the party. He also made what the NPP described as additional disparaging remarks and alleged, among other things, that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

The party said it unequivocally rejects Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s characterisation of the NPP and firmly denies what it described as baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 presidential primary. The NPP stated that the primary was widely acknowledged by all participating candidates and well-meaning party members as having been conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, faithfully reflecting the will of party delegates.

The statement described the conduct and utterances of Prof. Frimpong-Boateng as highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the party.

Consequently, the NPP said it has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng from the party, strictly in accordance with due process.
