Youth show keen interest in upcoming District Level Elections

, Region – A growing number of young individuals in the Region are actively expressing their interest in contesting the upcoming , with the aim of contributing to the mobilization of resources for local development.

The majority of these aspiring candidates are enthusiastic young men and women who have demonstrated their positive intentions to run in the District Assembly and Unit committee level elections to represent their respective electoral areas.

These elections, scheduled for December 19, 2023, play a pivotal role in advancing local governance and decentralization across the country.

The observed that the communities in the region have begun to display campaign posters of these youth contestants, both in the towns and on platforms, underscoring their readiness to assume leadership roles.

In an with the , Mr Francis Kwabena Sieh, a contestant who is a teacher and broadcast journalist, urged the electorate to vote for him, emphasizing his commitment to enhancing the of the Twimia-Nkwanta electoral area in the Municipality. He pledged to consult and collaborate with stakeholders to attract more investors to the area.

Meanwhile, Mr. Yussif Sulemana, the incumbent Assembly member for the Parambo electoral area in the Pru East District, has expressed his unwavering dedication to promoting the welfare of the people in his region.

He intends to achieve this by forging connections with development partners and seeking their support for the area, and he urged the community to grant him the opportunity to continue his positive work.

Mr Ishmael Lamptey, the Bono East Regional programmes officer of the (NYA), praised the youth for their active involvement in the local assembly elections. He emphasized the vital role young people play in driving national development.

Mr. Lamptey highlighted that the youth's increased participation in elections aligns with the NYA's mission to empower and represent the youth, fostering a sense of ownership, responsibility, and civic duty in decision-making processes.
