Tension mounts at Bawjiase Police Command as Kasoa Ofaakor Asafo members demand release of arrested soldiers and national security officers

Tension is mounting at the Bawjiase District Police Command in the Central Region after angry Asafo members from Kasoa Ofaakor besieged the station, demanding the release of four soldiers and two National Security officers arrested during an attempt to install a new chief at Awutu Quashi Abbey in the Awutu Senya West District.

The arrests followed reports that the soldiers and National Security officers had attempted to install a new chief in the community despite the existence of a recognised traditional leader. Police picked them up during the operation, triggering swift backlash from members of the Asafo group.

The Asafo members, who arrived at the station in large numbers, insisted that the detained officers be released immediately, but police personnel stood their ground and declined to hand over the suspects.

The situation escalated further when a military pickup with registration number 52 GA 62, accompanied by additional officers, arrived at the Bawjiase Police Command to support the detained soldiers, deepening unease among residents and security personnel.

Speaking to Adom News correspondent Kofi Adjei, the leader of the Kasoa Ofaakor Asafo group, Asafo Supi Nipa-Nka, cautioned the military to stay away from land and chieftaincy matters, warning that such interference could fuel unnecessary conflict within the community.
