Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama, and his appointment requires parliamentary approval as mandated by the Constitution. During the vetting, the Appointments Committee will examine his qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.

Speaker Alban Bagbin emphasised the importance of the vetting process in maintaining public confidence in the judiciary, saying: “We trust that this process will be carried out in accordance with the laws of our country.”

If confirmed, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie will succeed Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who was suspended and later removed from office. He has been acting Chief Justice since April 2025 and boasts a long and distinguished career, having served at the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.
