Ghana has reached another milestone in its pursuit of inclusion and equality with the introduction of the Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disability policy.

Announcing the initiative, the President emphasised that the policy is not an act of charity but a moral responsibility and an act of justice that affirms the nation’s commitment to fairness and equal opportunity.

He noted that behind the statistics of over two million Ghanaians living with disabilities are human stories of perseverance, talent, and unrealised dreams that deserve the chance to thrive.

Each student supported under this policy, he said, represents an investment in Ghana’s future – one whose success will contribute to national development and strengthen the fabric of society.

Recalling the introduction of the Inclusive Education Policy in 2015, the President described the new initiative as a continuation of that vision – advancing access to higher education for all, regardless of financial condition or circumstance.

The revamped and digitised Student Loan Trust Fund will oversee the policy’s implementation, ensuring transparency and efficiency, with an annual contribution of GHS 50 million from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

He concluded with a call to collective action, stressing that no Ghanaian should be denied the opportunity to learn, to work, or to serve because of disability. “Together, we are building a Ghana that leaves no one behind,” he said.
