North East Region, Oct 3, GNA, The North East Regional Police Command has launched investigations following an armed attack on two Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) personnel stationed at the Gbintri Inland checkpoint, which resulted in the death of one officer.
In a statement signed by DSP Robert Anabik Anmain, Public Affairs Officer for the region, police said the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, when unidentified gunmen attacked the officers.
Both personnel sustained gunshot wounds. One officer later succumbed to his injuries, while the other was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
The statement noted that the assailants reportedly made away with a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers, but police were able to retrieve a service rifle that had been in use at the checkpoint during the attack.
Authorities assured the public that a manhunt is underway to apprehend the perpetrators of what they described as a “heinous crime.”
“We hereby appeal to the public to provide any information on the culprits to assist police investigations,” the statement added.
