The U-19 female teams from Ghana and Cote D'Ivoire were victorious on Day Three of the ongoing International Handball Federation (IHF) Africa Zone Three Trophy tournament held at the Tennis Court of the Accra Sports Stadium.
Cote D'Ivoire, having entered the tournament with an unbeatable record, continued to dominate in the field of play since the beginning of the tournament.
In the U19 category, Cote D'Ivoire defeated their counterparts from Liberia with a 62-5 lead, while Ghana beat Benin 21-16 respectively. In the U17 category, Ghana lost to Nigeria 49-29, and Cote D'Ivoire humbled Liberia 48-8 to emerge as winners.
On day two of the competition, Cote D'Ivoire beat Ghana 33-29, and team Benin won 57-9 over Liberia in the U-19 category. In the U-17 category, the Ghanaian team beat the Liberian team 52-14, while Cote D'Ivoire won 37-26 against Benin.
According to the tournament's technical coordinator, Mr George Bankole, the teams showed great skill and dedication on the field, and the tournament has provided a platform for young handball players in the region to showcase their talents.
He further expressed his excitement about the growing interest in handball in Africa and the potential for African teams to compete at the highest level globally.
The tournament, which started on April 11, 2023, will come to an end on April 16, 2023, with the finals for both the U-19 and U-17 categories.
