Accra High Court has directed Daniel Asiedu, also known as “Sexy Dondon,” the suspect implicated in the murder of the late legislator, J.B. Dankwah Adu, to appear before it and commence his defence. Additionally, the court mandated Asiedu to provide evidence of his ailment by submitting medical records signed by a certified medical officer.

During proceedings, defence counsel Ms Sophia Armstrong informed the court that the accused was indisposed and unable to attend the session. She requested expedited consideration for a motion related to a subpoena, indicating Asiedu's intention to call certain witnesses before presenting his defence.

However, Principal State Attorney Sefakor Batse contended that a motion was unnecessary for subpoenaing witnesses, suggesting that such arrangements could be handled administratively through the court's Registrar. The presiding judge, Justice Mrs Lydia Osei Marfo, rebuked the defence's tardiness in filing the motion, asserting that the request appeared disingenuous and aimed at delaying proceedings.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the defence's approach, Justice Marfo emphasized the need for expediency in the trial, which has spanned four years. She denounced any attempts to prolong the legal process and ordered Asiedu to appear before the court the following day to initiate his defence.

Asiedu faces charges of robbery and the murder of the legislator at his residence in Shiashie, Accra, in 2016. Despite pleading not guilty, he has been remanded into lawful custody pending the conclusion of the trial. Meanwhile, his alleged accomplice, Vincent Bossu, has been acquitted following a submission of no case.
