288 voter registration centres ready, EC to add 775 soon 

The (EC) has unveiled plans for the upcoming voter registration exercise, slated to run from May 7 to May 27, 2024. A total of 288 centres have been designated across the country, including the EC's district offices and public .

The distribution of registration centres reflects a strategic approach to ensure accessibility and efficiency in the registration process. In the Greater region, for instance, registration will take place at 31 centres, while the will have 22 centres.

Across the various regions, the number of centres varies, with the leading with 46 centres, followed by the with 33 centres. Other regions have between 6 to 18 centres allocated for registration purposes.

In addition to district offices, registration will also be conducted at 25 public nationwide, including prestigious institutions such as the , Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and the University of Development Studies.

The EC's decision to include public universities in the registration process underscores its commitment to ensuring the participation of young voters in the electoral process. By providing registration centres at universities, the EC aims to facilitate the registration of students and promote youth engagement in democratic processes.

Furthermore, the EC plans to expand the number of registration centres by adding 775 new centres soon. This expansion is aimed at reaching individuals residing in remote areas, ensuring that all eligible voters have access to the registration process.

Commenting on the upcoming exercise, EC's Public Relations Officer, Micheal Boadu, assured the public of the Commission's readiness to conduct a smooth and transparent registration exercise. With the deployment of registration centres across the country, the EC is poised to facilitate the registration of eligible voters and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
