Kandiga Chief praised for 50 years of selfless leadership

Naaba Henry Abawine Amenga-Etego II, the Divisional Chief of Kandiga community in the Kassena-Nankana West District, celebrated 50 years as chief with a grand durbar filled with colorful displays of singing, drumming, dancing, and cultural performances. The event was marked by sacrifices and praises to God and ancestors for preserving Naaba Amenga-Etego II for over five decades.

Various cultural troops, chiefs, political figures, and community members attended the occasion, commending Naaba Amenga-Etego II for his selfless leadership and dedication to community development. His efforts in restoring peace between the Kandiga and Doba communities, which were embroiled in a land dispute, were particularly praised.

The theme of the celebration was “50 years of charismatic and selfless leadership: consolidating our unity for holistic development.” Naaba Amenga-Etego II, who ascended to the chiefdom in 1972 following his father's passing, was gazetted as chief in 1973 under the Chieftaincy Act.

Guest of honour Pe Ditundini Adiana Ayagitam III, President of the Regional House Chiefs, applauded Naaba Amenga-Etego II's dedicated service and emphasized the importance of peace in fostering development. He urged all stakeholders to work together to maintain the peace and promote communal labour for community development.

In his remarks, Naaba Amenga-Etego II expressed gratitude to his people for their contributions to community development. He highlighted progress in areas such as education, healthcare, and the eradication of harmful cultural practices. However, he emphasized the need for unity and collective commitment to attract investment for accelerated development.

Naaba Amenga-Etego II also called on the government to create a new district out of Kassena-Nankana West to facilitate development. Additionally, he appealed for increased infrastructure for Kandiga Senior High Technical School, extension of electricity to more communities, and rehabilitation of major roads in the area.

Mr. Gerard Ataogye, the District Chief Executive, echoed the sentiment of Naaba Amenga-Etego II's significant contribution to development and urged community members to support him for more projects. Overall, the celebration highlighted Naaba Amenga-Etego II's enduring legacy and the collective aspiration for continued progress in the Kandiga community.
