During the launch of LEADing Justice, a strategic framework document of the Chief Justice on her vision for the Judiciary and Judicial Service of Ghana, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia emphasized the significant cost-saving and efficiency gains achieved through digitization initiatives in the country.
Bawumia highlighted specific examples, such as the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and the National Service Secretariat, where digitization efforts had led to substantial savings by eliminating ghost pensioners and workers, respectively.
He praised the Chief Justice's focus on digitization as a key component of her vision for the judiciary, noting the remarkable progress Ghana has made in a short time through digitization.
Bawumia cited the adoption of the Ghana Card as a Tax Identification Number, which dramatically increased the proportion of individuals with Tax IDs from four percent to 85 percent. He also emphasized the role of digitization in combating corruption, citing the elimination of ghost workers through biometric identification.
The Vice President underscored the importance of digitization in advancing the pillars of law, ethics, asset management, due process, and overall judicial system advancement.
He expressed satisfaction with the positive changes brought about by e-systems in the administration of justice, particularly the case tracking system launched under the criminal justice sector in 2018.
Bawumia called on all Ghanaians to support the Chief Justice's vision to enhance justice delivery in the country, pledging continued government investment in court infrastructure, residential accommodation for judges, and general retooling of human resources to improve justice delivery.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, lauded the Chief Justice's innovative approach in launching her vision for justice delivery, emphasizing the importance of citizen engagement in assessing the performance of judicial leadership.
Yaw Acheampong Boafo, President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), expressed confidence in the Chief Justice's ability to bring transformative leadership to the judiciary, hoping her vision would reach all stakeholders for the betterment of the justice system.
