Star Assurance Group, the parent company of Star Assurance, StarLife Assurance, StarMicroinsurance, StarHealth Insurance, and Pensol Capital Trust, has announced the appointment of Mr. Kweku Ocran as its new Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), succeeding Mr. Kofi Duffuor, the former CEO.
Mr. Ocran, who previously served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Star Assurance Group, brings with him over three decades of experience in the insurance sector. He is described as a hands-on executive with a track record of success and a commitment to excellence.
During his tenure as Deputy Managing Director/Chief Operations Officer at Star Assurance, Mr. Ocran played a key role in the company's growth and success, solidifying its position as one of the top three non-life insurers in terms of premium income and assets.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Ocran is recognized for his contributions to knowledge-sharing and entrepreneurship within the industry. His leadership style is characterized by a focus on collaboration, innovation, and corporate governance.
Expressing gratitude for his new role, Mr. Ocran stated his commitment to continue delivering quality insurance solutions and raising the standards of the industry in Ghana, with the support of the board, management, and colleagues.
Mr. Ocran's extensive experience in the insurance sector includes senior roles at Vanguard Assurance, Enterprise Insurance, and the African Reinsurance Corporation. He is a Chartered Insurer and Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK), with qualifications from the University of Ghana.
In addition to Mr. Ocran's appointment, Mr. Emmanuel Baiden has been appointed as the Group Chief Operating Officer, transitioning from his previous role as Group Chief Finance Officer.
The release also noted that Mr. Kofi Duffuor, the former CEO, will continue to play a vital role on the Star Assurance Group Board and other boards, focusing on strategic initiatives within the insurance realm.
