Seven aspirants rush nomination forms for NPP primary in Ejisu

Seven aspirants wasted no time seizing the opportunity on the opening day of nominations for the New Patriotic Party's () primary in , , to replace the late MP Dr. , who passed away on March 7, 2024.

Supporters gathered at the office to rally behind their preferred candidates as they purchased nomination forms from the election committee chaired by Danquah Smith Buttey, the national first vice-chairman of the party.

Among those who picked nomination forms are Kwasi Nyantakyi, former Ghana FA president, Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, second vice-chairman of the NPP in Ejisu, and Helena Mensah. Additionally, Lawyer Portia Baffoe Abronye, Dr. Evans Duah, Madam Pokuaa Boitey, and Klinsman Karikari Mensah also obtained forms.

All aspirants expressed confidence in being placed on the ballot, as the nomination period closes on Thursday, April 4.

Danquah Smith Buttey, the NPP's national first vice-chair, outlined the modalities of the exercise, stating, “Our noble MP is gone, and we need somebody who will replace him in . Therefore, in our constitution, when somebody passes on, we open nominations for those interested in the constituency to pick forms. After picking, they will submit, and we do vetting, and then we will do elections.”

He further explained the nomination fees, stating that the nomination forms cost GHC3,000, with a submission fee of GHC35,000. However, women, youth aged 18 to 40, and the disabled are eligible for a half-price fee of GHC17,500.

Buttey concluded, “Those who are ready and capable will come for the forms.”
