Gender activist files injunction seeking to prevent Speaker, Attorney General, Parliament from sending anti-LGBTQI bill to President Akufo-Addo

Gender activist, Dr. Amanda Odoi, has taken legal action against the Speaker of , , and the , , in response to the recent passage of the anti-gay bill.

approved the bill on February 28, 2024, criminalizing + activities, including their promotion, advocacy, and funding. Individuals found violating this legislation could face imprisonment ranging from 6 months to 3 years, while those involved in promoting and sponsoring such activities may face jail terms between 3 to 5 years.

Expressing her opposition to the bill, Dr. Odoi has raised concerns about specific provisions within the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-gay bill. To address her concerns, she has filed an application for an interlocutory injunction.

Dr. Odoi seeks a restraining order to prevent the Speaker, , and the Clerk of Parliament from sending the bill to President for his approval. This legal action reflects ongoing debates and tensions surrounding + rights and legislation in Ghana.
