Koforidua, Eastern Region, Ghana – In a gesture of diplomatic camaraderie, Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara expressed commendation for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's leadership and accomplishments despite global challenges. The accolades were conveyed during Ghana's 67th Independence Day celebration held at the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre.
President Ouattara, as the Guest of Honour, praised President Akufo-Addo's remarkable tenure as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He commended the Ghanaian leader for an “exceptional and outstanding job” in steering the regional body, expressing a desire for the tenure to extend further.
The Ivorian President acknowledged the intrinsic bond between Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, emphasizing their shared geography, history, friendship, and culture. He highlighted the pleasure of participating in Ghana's Independence Day celebration, signifying the strong ties between the two nations.
Expressing satisfaction with the bilateral relations, President Ouattara extended gratitude to Ghana for its role in the success of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, hosted by Côte d'Ivoire and concluded in February 2024. He additionally lauded Ghana for its 67-year journey towards “independence, dignity, and pride.”
The 67th Independence Day celebration, themed “Our Democracy, Our Pride,” underscored Ghana's commitment to multi-party democracy throughout its history. The event, held at the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre, drew attendance from traditional rulers, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, and the Diplomatic Corps.
This celebration marked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's final Independence Day in his last term as the President of the Republic. The Ivorian President's remarks reflected the diplomatic goodwill and appreciation for Ghana's leadership on both regional and continental fronts.
